What is GTT?
The Get Together With Technology (GTT) Program is a community-based, consumer-driven program providing technology training by, and for people who are blind or have low vision (PWBLV). GTT’s purpose is to offer information, support and a network of PWBLV to gain competence and confidence in the use of accessible technologies, and to share resources and information. GTT also provides a comprehensive wealth of knowledge and resources for professionals who want to use technology to assist the people they serve.
The Get Together With Technology Program is building on its previous successes by expanding supports and programs to better serve PWBLV in three areas of the community identified as possibly requiring different approaches: youth, seniors and those with multiple disabilities.
The GTT was founded in 2011 by Kim Kilpatrick and Ellen Goodman after a gap analysis and the realization that technology could empower those with vision loss to live full, independent lives. In 2015, Kim Kilpatrick and Ellen Goodman received the Education Award (Celebration of People Ceremonies). As technologies change and evolve, the Get Together With Technology Program stays current in order to deliver the most up-to-date information and resources to its members.
GTT members have been invited to consult and participate in several community projects. Members have been involved with accessibility testing for websites, apps and adaptive devices. GTT participants have attended a variety of presentations and ‘walk-throughs’ at museums, galleries, festivals, municipal spaces, educational institutions and transportation authorities. GTT’s expertise is sought by teachers, parents, inventors and others who have made a strong commitment to accessibility for all.
As a national program, the Get Together With Technology provides flexible services to meet the diverse needs of its members. Programs include ongoing one-to-one support (face-to-face, online and by phone), monthly user group meetings, workshops, teleconferences and online information sharing through blog posts and Social Media channels. GTT is working on new models to strengthen connections within the community, such as increased utilization of Social Media with you and visiting seniors at their residences.
